A pupil arrives for her lesson with the Professor. Ionesco’s classic tale is known to many as a devastating perversion of the relationship between master and pupil, emphasizing the potential abuse of power and oppressive tendencies of our educational establishments. Keeffe’s ‘Gotcha’ presents us with the reaction of a kid who has failed in such a school system. Critical Stage Company is known to UK audiences as a platform for frustrating previously held beliefs. In this new production CSC breaks the Ionesco chain to ask the Professor to face the consequences of his actions. All kids, young and old, are invited to come and join in the rebellion.

Critical Stage Company was established in London in 1997 with the aim of enhancing the Professional base for its developing style of alternative theatre. CSC presents bold, sometimes harsh statements, which impress upon its audience the need for awareness. The company has developed an expression for space and original music, whilst adapting old or supporting new plays. The company has specialized in performing groups of short plays, often unrelated, in a way which weaves together themes and issues not otherwise apparent.
